June 20 – August 16, 2024
Opening reception: June 20, 6 - 8 PM

Andrew Edlin Gallery is delighted to announce a summer exhibition featuring recent works by Tyler Macko (b.1989), John Roberts (b.1974), and Bill Miller (b.1962). The works of these three American artists invoke familiar scenes or actual memories rooted in home or childhood. Miller, a native Ohioan, creates narratives composed solely with cut pieces of vintage linoleum flooring, with no added paint. The use of recognizable linoleum patterns evokes the nostalgic essence of the medium, giving each work the aura of a family photo album. Macko's wall-hung assemblages are made entirely of objects found on his farm in the Shields River Valley of Montana. These mementos are imbued with personal history and serve as vestiges of heritage. Roberts's oils are homages to his ancestral ties to Sharon, Tennessee, the small town where his family has lived for eight generations. Roberts aligns with American scene painters like Grant Wood and Carroll Cloar, who intertwine everyday life in Middle America with folkloric imagery, revealing a candid, somber, yet strangely tender celebration of the heartland.

This presentation marks the debut for each artist’s work at AEG. John Roberts is represented by David Lusk Gallery (Memphis, Nashville). Bill Miller is represented by dieFirma (New York).
